The Delegation of the European Union was opened in Vienna in 1979 as a Delegation of the European Commission to Austria and to the International Organisations in Vienna. The Vienna delegation is responsible for the representation of the European Union at the UN organisations established in Vienna, in particular the UN Office in Vienna, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), at other specialised bodies such as the Wassenaar Arrangement and the Nuclear Suppliers Group, and at the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
