Commissioner Nielson to address 5th International Conference of New or Restored Democracies in Mongolia

European Development Commissioner Poul Nielson will address the 5th International Conference of New or Restored Democracies (ICNRD) which takes place in Mongolia 10-12 September.

The theme of the 5th ICNRD is democracy, good governance and civil society. The general purpose of the ICNRD conferences is to promote universal values of democracy and human rights through the exchange and dissemination of best practices between the participating countries. The first ICNRD was held in 1988. All UN member States are invited. To encourage a wide attendance, the Commission has financed travelling expenses for a number of ACP countries.

Following the conference, Commissioner Nielson will pay official visits to Mongolia and China. These will include inspection of EU development cooperation projects.
