
Sumario: November 10, 2004: Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on general elections in Botswana (Brussels)
The European Union congratulates Botswana with the successful conduct of its general elections held on 30 October 2004. These elections were considered free and fair along the lines of established norms as formulated in, among others, the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.
The European Union congratulates His Excellency Mr. Festus Mogae on the occasion of his new term as President of the Republic of Botswana.
The Candidate Countries Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Croatia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, and the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, align themselves with this declaration.
* Croatia continues to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
